Hempathy is a wonderfully light yarn from Elsebeth Lavold with a hemp, cotton and modal fiber blend. Hemp gives this yarn a great drape and linen-like feel while the cotton adds softness and the Modal provides the yarn with wicking properties and longevity in wear and use. Modal, a soft fiber made from Beech trees, is absorbent and air-permeable/breathable. Modal is also cool to the touch, which makes this yarn ideal for warm weather garments and accessories.
Hemp is an incredible plant fiber that is valued for its strength and durability. Hemp won"t wear out, rather it will wear in - getting better with age. It also has anti-bacterial properties. The drape and feel resembles that of linen, but the cotton content provides softness and Modal lends it some elasticity. This enhances the knitting properties, and helps even out the knitting for uneven knitters.
Hempathy is a great yarn to work with year round and can be used for garments and accessories of all kinds and works up at a DK to sport gauge.
