Join us for our new workshops covering Finishing Techniques.
This is three 1 hour sessions held back to back. Sign up for one, two or all three and learn some important techniques for finishing your hand knits.
These sessions will cover the Kitchener Stitch (knitted not sewn), the Finchley Graft and the Mattress Stitch. These are all great techniques for the new and seasoned knitter to have in their arsenal of techniques.(if time allows we may also cover some blocking tips).
Materials Required: The students will be required to knit up some small pieces of stockinette in advance for this class. These sample pieces should be made using either DK or Worsted weight yarn using appropriate needle size. It is recommended that the students use a few different colours for the samples. The students should bring all their samples, extra yarn and appropriate size circular needle with at least a 30 inch cable, a tapestry needle for sewing, and scissors.
Each student should knit up 6 pieces of stockinette fabric.
For the Kitchener Stitch and Finchley Graft 4 small pieces of stockinette will be needed. Suggested size for these pieces would be 10 stitches by 10 rows. Do not bind off these four samples, leave on needles or secure with a lifeline.
For the Mattress Stitch each student should knit up two pieces of stockinette, each piece should be 10 stitches by 30 rows.
