Using natural dyes and indigo vats, students will learn to dye yarns and materials. The first half of the class will be used to create the indigo vats and prepare yarns and fabrics ready to dye using resists and shibori folding techniques. The second half, students will dye using the indigo techniques and then have the opportunity to over dye with other natural dyes and/or use those dyes with indigo to create new colours! Amazing!
Please Note: This class is limited to 10 students.
Materials Required: Rubber gloves, plastic bags (to carry wet fibre home), an apron, towel(s) to sop up extra dye, and a wire hanger (wire works best).
We will be supplying you with all the dyeing materials, one skein of yarn and a silk scarf for dyeing. Students can also bring other fabrics to dye!
*Additional skeins of yarn will be available for purchase.
Prerequisites: Ability to work with wool.
Cost: $130 (includes dyeing supplies, 1 skein of yarn and a silk scarf) *You will need to bring rubber gloves, plastic bags, apron, wire hanger and an old towel(s).
