We discuss the benefits of starting early to avoid the stress and rush of making handmade holiday gifts this season.
Knitting for Christmas in JulyWould you like to reduce your holiday stress and anxiety? Spun is here to help! We believe that knitting is therapeutic in so many ways, and want you to enjoy knitting/crocheting for your loved ones this holiday season. So, we have some tips, tricks, and ideas for you to get started!Start gathering inspiration for your projects now if you haven’t already. Utilize resources such as books, magazines, Ravelry, Pinterest, social media, magazines and of course visit Spun to check out our samples, kits, and amazing yarns. Once you have some ideas, start gathering your materials for your projects and cast on! Waiting until fall to start can take the joy out of knitting for the holidays and add to holiday stress, and we don’t want that! This holds true for all skill levels and if you are a maker doing markets in the Fall, you really need to get your little fingers moving!Another way to save time and stress is to mass produce an item(s) that you know everyone will love. Personalize it by changing up the colour(s) or adding an accessory like a pom pom, button, or pin. This saves time and money by using the same pattern for multiple gifts!Purchase a kit! Kits can save you money, time, and they have everything you need from start to finish! Spun has several kits available for the holidays already. Some of our most popular kits include the following: Cabin Socks, Hat, Mitts and Fingerless Mitts, Heritage Mitts and Cowl, Wool and the Gang Paw Purfect Socks, Toft Crochet Animals (#adorable), Moffit Hat, Acadia Hat, and more!Trunk shows are another great way to meet local Indy Dyers and Makers, see what they’ve created, and be inspired by their products. Spun has trunk shows on a monthly basis and July is featuring Shireen of Blue Brick Yarns. Shireen is inspired by her own photography and literally turns her photos in beautiful hand painted ombré yarns. Come to Spun and meet Shireen on Saturday, July 28th from 10am to 4pm.Meeting up with friends for a knit night can also be inspiring, relaxing, and add even more joy to your knitting… not to mention a delicious hot cup of coffee or a cool, crisp glass of wine depending on the venue ;). (psst… Spun has an open knit night every Friday night)And last but not least, come in to Spun and find out what our staff members have on their needles or hooks. They always have a WIP to share!Happy Knitting for Happy Holidays!Peace, Love, and Fleece
